You must not force yourself to jump to forgiveness by skipping over disappointment, anger and hurt. It is essential to let yourself feel that and when time comes, really let it go. However, refuse hatred the entry into your heart. It was others’ hatred that landed you here.

Step-Father Duck
Today when a few of my students found out that I’m still contemplating whether or not to stay a second year at this job, one of them threw down a hilarious fit. She tossed her pen to the ground and gave me a grand speech about how she is tired of their daddies always leaving (the woman who was previously in my position was her Father Duck, and I am currently their Step-Father Duck)....

Set It Up Episode 1101: Teen Perspectives on Shared Experiences I co-coordinate an after-school television production program called Set It Up for youth in St. Paul. Our first episode for this season came out a month ago, but now it is online. I am whole-heartedly proud of the work they’ve done and continue to do. Power to the Youth Voice.

I will be helping some youth from the local library create a book trailer for a local author’s book. So, to familiarize myself with book trailers, I’ve been online checking some out. I especially loved this one. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon Book by Grace Lin Trailer by Isaac, Grace, Lily, Dad

I count my blessings in times of hardship. Yes, I’ve been knocked backward, but there is so much to be thankful for. And with that, I get back on my feet and I keep moving forward the only way I know how.

A Hmong Woman and her Paj Ntaub Story
Yesterday, I met an amazing Hmong woman. I arrived to my high school for their Community Involvement Day, but had a few hours before the workshop I was to co-lead would start. Murray walked me to a workshop he thought I would be interested in. When we entered the room, an elder Hmong woman greeted us. It was a paj ntaub (Hmong storycloth) workshop. She walked over to the large paj ntaub piece...

The Law of Pure Potentiality Take time to be silent, to just BE. Meditate for 30 minutes twice a day. Silently witness the intelligence within every living thing. Practice non-judgment. The Law of Giving Today, bring whoever you encounter a gift: a compliment or flower. Gratefully receive gifts. Keep wealth circulating by giving and receiving care, affection, appreciation and love. Needs
I’ve been finding myself really needing something lately. What are our needs in life? My wants are my needs. Because without fulfilling some of your desires, what happiness are you achieving? So, my needs are vast. As of lately, I need more creation in my life. What I have for an outlet are this blog, a journal, and the work I do with my youth. It’s amazing. But even that isn’t...

Violence in North Minneapolis
A drive-by occurred at my former classmate’s home in North Minneapolis at 2am last night. 8-9 bullets entered many rooms including bedrooms where people were sleeping. Upon request for investigation, police told them that there is nothing they can do if no one is killed. This shooting happened only blocks away from where a 3-year-old was recently killed by a similar drive-by.  You can read...

Jib jib jib
I haven’t written anything introspective or reflective in a while… So here’s some jibberish. Friday day was spent at the Minneapolis Television Network doing studio shoots and editing. I gave a short training on Final Cut Pro and helped moderate in the studio. We had a blast. The group I led made a mystery short about technology literacy. Also, MTN has some amazing murals in...
